I began my career teaching English, history, and reading in the Philadelphia Public Schools. I became a teacher of remedial reading, after taking a master's degree, in the Psychology of Reading at Temple University. Then I spent twelve years in England, with my family, from 1972 to 1983. I saw how different the English educational system was, and learned to appreciate how this difference helped certain students to succeed more readily. Upon returning to the U.S., I took a master's degree in Counseling & Human Relations at Villanova University, because I realized that children, adolescents, and their parents needed one-to-one help in many cases, in order to succeed in school and in life. Next, I worked briefly for Children's Aid Society in Philadelphia, as a foster care social worker, before becoming a school counselor, also in Philadelphia, where I continued to work with children, adolescents, and parents, with various issues, such as divorce, addiction, and getting along is the family. At this point, I started my own private practice in counseling, which I continued for seventeen years. I also became a certified yoga teacher, and taught yoga classes for credit at Montgomery County Community College. Many of the clients in my private practice were my students and often, their parents. They brought issues such as getting along with siblings and parents, while living at home to save money, issues of a sexual nature, and feeling generally overwhelmed with life. In all the counseling and therapy I've done, I have felt very fulfilled in being able to help people of various ages, and from various walks of life, to raise the level of their coping skills, so as to make genuine and lasting improvements in their lives.
